The Jewelry Loupe is a blog/magazine for jewelry lovers, celebrating human ornament in all its facets. I’ll take you behind the scenes at the hottest jewelry auctions and exhibits, and dig up the coolest stuff I can find from designers and studio artists, past and present.
If you’ve landed on this blog, you’re probably already fascinated by jewelry. I’ve been covering this topic for a long time and it never gets old. Jewelry is the perfect microcosm for just about every interesting subject I can think of. Besides, we all need a little eye candy.
Cathleen McCarthy (that’s me) started out editing a magazine on fashion jewelry, then moved on to writing about art jewelry and fine jewelry, antique and contemporary, for Art & Antiques, Town & Country, Country Living, AmericanStyle, and JCK where I was a contributing editor. I write a column for Lapidary Journal Jewelry Artist called Net Profits, helping designers sell and market online, and make a living covering business, design, and (my other favorite subject) travel.

Thank you for your great article in Jewelry Artist “Reinventing the Wedding Ring.” One of the best articles in Lapidary Journal that I have seen. That issue will be a hard act for the editors to follow. I am really enjoying your website. Great info, very well done..

I am a sailor, actor and jewelry lover. Don’t have much time for anything else. Check out the blog of designer Halle Richardson, romancing the stone, my love affair with jewelry. She mentioned you and designers that are unknown to the mass audience.
Love your blog!
GO Sailing!!
Dear Jewelry Loupe,
I purchased a piece of jewelry depicting three sunflowers on a rectangular piece of copper (?) On the back is an inscription ERNST in caps. I am trying to find out who made the piece and would be amazed if it was one of Max Ernst’s pieces. I can only find one image of his jewelry on your site but no others. Do you have more images of his work or could you send a copy of how he signed his pieces so I could see if the signature matches? I am most curious.
Thanks,
Cynthia
