If you have a valuable jewelry collection, you probably long to have it perfectly organized, showcased and safe – even if its value is mostly to you. ‘Tis the season to consider upgrading to a jewelry safe that’s both theft-proof and a joy to behold.
You’re in luck. Brown Safe has added all kinds of options to the already impressive lineup of colors, exotic woods, and high-tech gadgets available in its jewelry safes. As Lynel Brown says about her family business: “Safes are no longer ugly boxes stuck in the basement. They are a central spot where valuables can be organized and accessed daily.”

Founded nearly four decades ago to provide the military with high-security vaults, Brown Safe is known for producing safes that will withstand serious assault. But inside that armored exterior is the jewelry box of your dreams, with colors, compartments and components you can customize to suit any collection, taste and bank account.
Many of their jewelry safes are outfitted with state-of-the-art technology, including beautiful lighting, USB power outlets, watch winders, and some serious locks. I asked Lynel about the latest options, in case someone wants to buy us a really special present this year.
You’ve added some bold colors and exotic woods to your jewelry safes this year. Were customers asking for color?
Definitely. Our clients love customizing their safes to match their individual preferences and styles.
You offer dial, electronic and biometric locks. Explain the difference. How do they vary in price and which is most secure?
Electronic locks are by far the most popular due to their extreme ease of use, as well as enabling the client to change their own combination. Biometrics are also quite popular but the increased price can be a factor for some. Dial locks are the old tried and true and will last a lifetime without needing to change batteries, but many people are intimidated by operating them.
What do most women look for when they’re choosing a jewelry safe?
Organization. Our clients are tired of having jewelry stored in multiple locations and feeling as though they never wear their jewelry because it is too inconvenient to access. A well thought-out jewelry safe makes selecting jewelry an easy step whether you’re getting ready for the day or a night out.
What are the three most important features of a jewelry safe?
Security should be first and foremost. Unfortunately, we hear from clients on a daily basis that they purchased a safe they felt was secure only to find they did little more than organize their valuables for a burglar. As in many markets, cheap knockoffs are everywhere and are more common than secure safes, so make sure to do your homework and get a UL-rated burglary safe.
Organization options should be key when laying out a safe you plan to use daily. Our safes are meant to last a lifetime so we help each client through the process of customizing the safe to meet their needs perfectly.
Forward compatibility and reliability are also really important factors when purchasing a safe. Research the warranty on the safe – many brands only carry a one-year warranty – as a lockout can be very costly. Also, make sure the jewelry drawer inserts can be swapped for different ones in case your needs change over time.
What is the best value among your jewelry safes right now?
The Gem 4018 model is a terrific size with ample options and room to grow.
What is the craziest request you’ve had to date?
There have been so many it’s hard to pick just one! We’ve made safes for shoe collections and special drawers to hold the jewelry of celebrities’ young children. We’ve created all kinds of secret compartments. We even color-matched a safe to a client’s Ferrari once. You name it, we’ve done it!
